The Hesder Program at Yeshiva Har Bracha spans approximately five years, seamlessly combining rigorous Torah study with active service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This track is designed to cultivate dedicated Torah scholars who are deeply committed to the nation, the State of Israel, and practical, everyday life.
Military Service
The mitzvah of serving in the IDF is a guiding light for the Yeshiva. Hesder students serve with immense dedication, viewing their military service as a profound national and religious responsibility. They strive to bring a spirit of heroism, faith, determination, and professionalism to both their training and the battlefield.
Our students are known for their commitment to the sanctity of the military camp, proudly maintaining high standards of religious observance, moral integrity, and the appropriate boundaries required by Halakha. The positive influence of the Yeshiva’s soldiers – and their ability to draw their fellow Jews closer to Torah through personal example – is widely recognized in every unit where they serve.
The Beit Midrash Curriculum
During their years of study in the Yeshiva – both before and after their active army duty – Hesder students immerse themselves in a comprehensive curriculum designed to build a complete spiritual foundation for life:
In-Depth Talmud Study: Guided by the principle that “great is study which leads to action,” learning focuses on tractates directly connected to a Jew’s everyday life (such as Berachot, Shabbat, and Pesachim). Students trace the halakha from the Gemara and Rishonim all the way to contemporary halakhic decision-makers. This deep understanding of the ta’amei hamitzvot (reasons for the commandments) gives students the tools to live a joyous and meaningful Torah life.
Emunah (Faith) and Jewish Thought: Students establish a robust spiritual worldview through the in-depth study of foundational texts, including the Kuzari, Mesillat Yesharim, the Maharal, and the great Hasidic masters. A central focus of the curriculum is the systematic study of the writings of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook (zt”l), supported by advanced classes in Jewish philosophy and historiosophy.
Tanakh: Recognizing the Tanakh as the living root of the Oral Torah, the Yeshiva guides its students to study the Bible in its entirety. Through a structured daily learning program, students acquire a broad and clear comprehension of all the books of the Tanakh during their time in the Hesder program.
